DICE SCRAMBLE RESULTS AND OTHER WINNERS

 AUG 20 DICE SCRAMBLE RESULTS

The August family holidays, the heat, and wildfire smoke seems to have kept more than a few players from joining us for the final scramble event of the season. Only 29 players signed up for the most challenging of all our scrambles — rolling a 😋 is paramount if your team wants to take advantage of that great drive on every hole.

It would appear that most teams rolled the 🙁 because only a few teams managed to break even par.

It would appear that somebody forgot to take photos again!

RESULTS

1ST - (68) Whitford, Trozzo, Delorie, Stevens (by tie breaker)

2ND - (68) Caron, Shubert, Brown, Larmour

3RD - (69) Muir, Vecchio, Bella (by tie breaker)

Remember to start practicing holing out on the greens — those short ones should be putted instead of picked up.

AUGUST WEEK ONE RESULTS and more stuff plus photos

BRITISH OPEN WINNERS

I was able to corral the co-winners of this year's Retirees British Open to take a photo with the coveted "Not the Real Claret Jug" trophy. They had to share the 'Tee Bag' prize.

All the retirees playing in our time slot, listed on the Pro Shop's tee sheet were entered into the draw and a name was randomly selected.

Our first week's winner of the brand new hat was Mark Brown. He was excited about winning but was disappointed he wouldn't be allowed to make a speech at the presentation.

RETIREES BRITISH OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

The first round of 'The Open Championship' is done with Farrell McLellan and John Lattanzio sharing the lead with matching 65's (net). Round two will be played July 9 and it looks to be another hot one that day.

SERGE LEADS, JOHN DISAPPEARS, and the sun is back

RETIREES MASTERS this week

It was a week of change at the top of our Masters Month leaderboard. Serge Pasquali 'serged' into a 4 shot lead with a 2 round NET total of 142 over chasers Marlin Frederick and Ken Swanson at 146.

One more round coming this week, which gives the chase group another chance to improve their total score.

Remember we use your best 2 rounds to determine your score AND you should use the same course handicap for all rounds in April. This simplifies the job of scoring — please update your course handicap when starting your first round of next month's RETIREES PGA MONTH.

RAGING STORM AT THE DICE SCRAMBLE

37 players braved the raging storm at this year’s Dice Scramble. Huge wind, large hail, lightning, and all manner of other dangers didn’t slow down this hardy group of golfers. OK, OK, I have no idea what the weather was doing today, but here in the Vancouver area it was quite decent.

Huge thanks to everyone who stepped up and helped John and Al with today’s event.

Winning Team: Molloy, Regnier, Johnston, Muir

RESULTS
1ST - Phil Molloy, Howie Regnier, Scott Johnston, Dave Muir - 67 (tiebreaker)

CHRISTINA LAKE DEADLINE
Just another reminder that the deadline to enter and pay the entry fee is Aug 28. Sign up online or on the paper copy on the bulletin board — pay via eTransfer or by cheque in the ProShop. I will email a list of entries to make sure I haven’t missed anyone.

NEXT WEEK ‘COMBO MADNESS’ and HAWAIIAN SHIRT DAY
Everyone plays the combo tees next week, but you choose which ones — Red/White Combos OR White/Blue Combos. Check the scorecard to see which tees to use.
It is also the return of ‘Hawaiian Shirt Day’ so dig out that loud shirt that you bought at the airport when you vacationed in Hawaii so many years ago. Never been there? Wear the loudest shirt you own or maybe that John Daly golf outfit you foolishly once bought. Grass skirts optional.

RED-WHITE-BLUE SCRAMBLE RESCHEDULED TO JULY 25

 HEAVY RAINS WASHOUT RWB SCRAMBLE

OK even golf can't be played when it rains this hard. We had to reschedule the RWB Scramble as the heavy rains soaked the course making it unplayable at our scheduled start time.

The Birchbank grounds crew heading to work this morning

All that extra practice in the sand trap yesterday was negated by the water filling the bunkers, puddles on the greens, and fairways too soggy for power carts.

GRANITE POINT TOURNAMENT (NELSON) DEADLINE APPROACHING

10AM Shotgun start - Wed, July 10 - Granite Point GC (Nelson)
Entry fee: $75.00 - everyone rides for this one; includes cart, golf, prizes, and lunch

JULY IS BRITISH OPEN MONTH

Our tee times start at 8:00 beginning July 1 — Thursday, July 4 is round 1 of 'The Open Championship' month. Remember to put your own score on the results sheet AND turn in your scorecard so I can verify all the scores.

In addition, you need to enter you daily scores into your handicap — using Golf Canada or Chronogolf. We depend upon everyone to keep an up to date, accurate handicap in order for our competitions to be fair.

If you need help with this, please ask!

 CANADIAN OPEN MONTH RESULTS

TIGER WOODS BOBBLEHEAD TROPHY UP FOR GRABS
Richard Dewdney opened with a net 70 to lead after one round of the Retirees PGA and this year we have a new trophy - a Tiger Woods Bobblehead — now that would look good in a photo with the winner. Don’t forget that YOU are responsible for writing your score on the PGA Scoresheet found on the bulletin board, don’t assume that it will be done for you.
Round 2 goes this Thursday and the weather report looks like the hot weather is finally going to be here — stay hydrated out there.

MASTERS ROUND 3 plus other bits and bobs

MASTERS ROUND 3 - LAST CHANCE TO MOVE UP

Thursday's round is your last chance to make a run for the Green Jacket by having one of those rounds where everything goes where you aim and every putt drops. After the round is completed, I will add your 2 best scores in order to get your final total and determine who will be this season's winner.
PS. - I couldn't convince John to spring for the $1000.00 Limited Edition 2024 Masters Bag and Headcovers as a prize for the winner.

VOLUNTEER FOR HANDICAP COMMITTEE MEMBER NEEDED
For those who have paid for your Golf Canada Membership, we are required to have a rep for the Handicap Committee in order to assist our members with accurately maintaining their GC handicap. It shouldn't involve a lot of time or effort on your part as players should be motivated to keep their handicap updated and be sure it is accurate.
If you are willing to volunteer, please contact me ASAP.

OPENING SCRAMBLE DEADLINE IS THURSDAY
Reminder that in order to enter you must sign up and pay the entry fee by Thursday.
Please use the online signup link and pay with eTransfer.

Masters Month Results So Far - Corrected

Round 2 started in bone chilling weather but did warm up to cold nose and frozen ear weather as the morning wore on. With 2 rounds completed, Jim Campbell leads the race to the Green Jacket with only one more round on April 28 to go.  Last year's winner Rich Dewdney, Jim Mohs, and Don Szilagyi are all in striking distance.

Several low handicap players are hoping for a good 3rd round to help their chances. All players get to use their lowest 2 NET scores when determining the champion for 2022.
